The Segway runs on rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries, and requires very little maintenance. The machine does not require oil changes, gasoline, or other periodic maintenance that a patrol car requires and is far less expensive.   The Segway is the ultimate vehicle not only for patrolling, but for cost saving as well.
